This stunningly large natural sculpture is the work of Stinson Studio of Canada. It commands your attention and yet brings you into the natural beauty of its form.
A burl is a tree growth in which the grain has grown in an unusual manner, generally, a rounded outgrowth on a tree. The Stinsons remove the burl , and put it through many steps and processes that can take up to two years, for it to become the highly figured carved sculpture that you see here. The Stinsons merge form and function, and highlight the natural beauty of the wood.
The award winning Stinson Studio is the family of Don Stinson and his sons, Jesse and Spike. This family of artists feel the most important aspect of their art is capturing the natural world they live and work in. They strive with every piece they create to bring a part of this world to the people who receive their work.
